Committed to Veterans
In true embodiment of the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), and as a thank-you to the sacrifices made by United States military service members, Virginia Tech provides ongoing assistance to veterans returning to the workforce through a series of programs and services. The university is committed to equal employment opportunity and affirmative action for covered veterans, and with approximately 250 job openings every day opportunities are abundant.
Veteran Recruitment Programs
As a Certified V3 Employer, Virginia Tech is consistently recognized in recruiting, hiring, and retaining veteran talent.
In recognition of this commitment, Virginia Tech was awarded a statewide Virginia Values Veterans Governor’s Award for hiring more veterans than any other state agency in the commonwealth.
Virginia Tech maintains a Virginia Department of Veterans Services SkillBridge program to offer transitioning service members the opportunity to gain valuable civilian skills through work experience in a variety of departments across the university.
Supporting Military Spouses
Military spouses are a unique group of professionals. With 34 percent holding a college degree and 15 percent a postgraduate degree, many positions would benefit from the unique experiences offered by these candidates. However, due to their often unique situations, military spouse unemployment rates are five to six times higher than the national average. As part of Virginia Tech's dedication to serving military families, we are committed to helping military spouses find opportunities that lead to stable employment and long-term career success.
Virginia Tech has been accepted into the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP), part of the broader Department of Defense Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program. MSEP includes more than 850 military-friendly employers committed to hiring and retaining military spouses.
MSEP connects military spouses with hundreds of employers who have committed to recruit, hire, promote, and retain military spouses. According to the Department of Defense, more than 220,000 spouses have obtained employment with MSEP employers.Virginia Tech is committed to veterans and helping them find employment at the university.
Virginia Tech is proud to join the 4+1 Commitment, a partnership with Blue Star Families and Hiring Our Heroes, aimed at improving military spouse employment outcomes.
